  1. I voted in today’s election!

  2. While sorely tempted to vote Briere and the two year’s of pure comedy her election would usher in, I went with my heart and voted the straight Giant Building ticket.

Though if the numerous “Vote Sabra” signs plopped in the more unkempt and weedy front yards of the 1st Ward are any indication, she’s going to get elected anyway.

  3. As a resident of an uncontested ward, I don’t get to today, but I’m happy to report that the election is going smoothly so far.

  4. I voted in the 3rd ward at 10 a.m.. I was told about 40 people had come in to vote this a.m..

  5. I voted today. 3rd in line.

  6. Oh. I voted for Sabra.

  7. I was voter #2 in my ward, and voted anti-NIMBY.

  8. I voted! I was voter #17 in my precinct, and voted proudly pro-development! (Of course, in my precinct, the developer in question is the Ypsi Public Schools…)

I did, however, order my Ann Arbor minions to vote against the Johnny Reb slate! Go, my minions! Go forth and vote! (At this point, I’d make reference to the flying monkeys music from Oz, if I thought David wouldn’t us this cue to make a tortured allegory of Sabra as Dorothy, dashing water on the Wicked Developer of the West.)

  9. I wasn’t going to vote but Cahill drove me to the polls. I voted, and it wasn’t for Sabra! I agree with PSD. As much as I love governance by retirees and bored housewives and insofar as it would be a real hoot watching her up there, i just couldn’t.

  10. I was trained as a child, clinging to my momma’s skirts in the voting booth, that taint nobody’s bidness how I vote…
However I will contribute that I was 20th with 2 behind me in my 5th ward polling place at 11:45am.

  11. I am in an uncontested ward so couldn’t vote.

When I dropped my son off at Eberwhite for day camp (very well run this year, btw) I observed that Mike Anglin was winning the signage war.

  12. Whomever you vote for, you may enjoy the wild campaign signs including La Bullington trumpteting her own integrity, see analysis here

(Voted today, of course, but shall not say whom voted for yet, so as not to sway vote etc.)

  13. Just cast my paradoxical vote to keep the NIMBY out of my backyard.

  14. at 6 pm, was 19th person to vote in 5th ward at library poll station
thanks for all the election posting last few weeks

  15. I voted at Slauson (5th Ward) at around 5:00pm. I voted for the person with the fewest signs up on the front lawn. I have a thing against too many signs . . .

  16. I voted. (I do it for the free sticker.)

  17. Unofficial election numbers, plus commentary, available here

  18. I voted in the 3rd in the morning and drank a 5th (with help) in the PM.

    Eldridge Cleaver for President!

  19. I voted, in the 5th Ward. I always vote.

  20. I’ve heard that a letter represents the opinions of 1000 people and an e-mail the opinions of 50. So let’s say a blog comment represents 25 — then we can conclude that 50 people came out to the polls to support greedy developer interests by the time Parking Structure Dude! posted. Go Team Development!

  21. MIke and Sabra won.

I guess that AAIO’s greedy developer interests were overrated by at least couple of votes.

Missed y’all at the Old Town!

  22. It was indeed a glorious victory! Thanks to all who supported Sabra (and Mike and LuAnne).

I expect the pro-development City Council is about to be redeveloped.

  23. God help us all, this new crop of public succubae, er, servants, will make us long for the days of Tobi Hanna-Davies. In commemoration of this victory of the forces of green (or whatever the hell they are) I think I’m gonna cut a tree down in my backyard and stack some bricks on top of each other. It’ll be the last time you’ll see that happen within the city limits without a total bitch fest on CTN. Four legs good, development bad.

  24. OK, I know complaining about M-Live is an old tune. But seriously… I just went to check for results and commentary on the elections. Clicking the “Ann Arbor News” link bring up a page without a single story on the election. The main story with photo is about how Loyd Carr listens to his players as the new season begins.

At least the other main page at M-Live has a small link to a story about how Anglin thinks campaigning helped him win (genius). But you’d think the main local news website could at least offer a sketch of the outcomes.

Maybe if we all send them a quarter the AANews can buy a laptop and start a myspace page from ERC. It would almost surely be better than that s**t show at M-Live.

  25. Just for the tally, I voted (but then, I would have voted without aaio).

  26. I voted. Still the preserve A2 in amber crowd carried the day.

  27. Mike Anglin is the key person to watch on the new Council. He crushed Wendy Woods. Sabra, on the other hand, is Bob Johnson’s replacement. She and Bob share concerns about development, so not many votes will be different solely due to her.

Sabra’s big reform idea on development is to have Ann Arbor adopt a version of Auburn Hills’ “citizen participation ordinance”. This requires that every developer seeking a change of zoning (including a planned unit development) must notify everyone within 1,000 feet. The developer must meet with them, and provide the City with a written report stating which concerns have been addressed, and which concerns have not been addressed, and why.

Sabra discussed this idea in detail with the editorial board of the AA News. They took notes, but did not include this plank in Sabra’s platform in their story.

  28. I tried to vote in the opposition party. Oh…there was no opposition party. Just different shades of Dems.

  29. Long live the USSR!

  30. JAH: The Republican Party has an automatic ballot spot whenever Ann Arbor mayor or city council are elected. It’s not the Democrats’ fault that no Republican candidates filed to take those nominations.

Sure, a Republican wouldn’t have much chance of getting elected in Ann Arbor. But neither would a Democrat in some place like Ottawa County. I’m guessing you wouldn’t compare some a one-party Republican area to the Soviet Union.

  31. Nein. when I lived in all=GOP county I registered and voted as a Dem. But that was in another state. I think one-party rule is dangerous regardless of where it is. I believe in real democracy, rather than this nonsense in AA.

  32. This was a primary, not the general election. It shouldn’t be a surprise that the choices for the Democratic nominee are (gasp!) Democratic, at least in party affiliation. Wait for the general election to see if the Republicans openly field a candidate. If not, then in the next Democratic primary vote for the hidden libertarian.

  33. Mike won because of his tireless retail politics who worked to expand his base beyond white OWS’ers. Wendy lost because she’s a “go along to get along” do nothing Democrat like Easthope, Lowenstein, Greden and Heiftje. They’re all party line hacks.

Mike and Sabra would do well to build a coalition with Ron Suarez, the council member disenfranchised by pro tem Easthope who either has his eyes on Lansing or second choice, a local judgeship. I’m hoping that Mike and Sabra’s wins in November will give Kunselman some gonads and maybe enlist Higgins into fighting the powers that be.

Just a homeowner. Yes! But as a homeowner you should know that Murph, Dale Winling and their ilk are out to get you.

JCP2. Beware the LIbertarian hiding under the rug. Commies prefer closets.

Republicans in any ward other than the 1st would be a surprise. Mike and Sabra will not see a Republican contendah.

The shredders will be working overtime in City Hall come November.

  34. If there’s one guy who doesn’t believe in homeownership, it’s Murph. I’ve said it over and over and over again.

  35. Man, this is going to be exciting. Murph out to get…himself!

  36. Yes, there’s only one person I know who has the Web following, the knowledge of planning and real estate, and the common sense pragmatism to overcome anti-homeowner Murph — and that’s Murph himself.

  37. Uh, dude, the www is a big place. Murph’s place in it occupies about as much mass as what I dig out from under my fingernails after a hard days work. If Murph’s knowledge of planning, real estate and home-ownership are what you claim, I say get in on the ground floor and demand stock options.

As far as pragmatism, the “New West Side Angry Renters Action Group” was reeeeeaaally pragmatic in the way it dissed everyone but your little clique of ivory tower planning students. Oh, the REAL planners, movers and shakers I know, who actually live and WORK in A2, either backed Anglin or voted for him.

You sound so far up Murph’s and todd’s ass that, as I wrote on your lame little piece of the www, that you’d do better being their spin doctor. Todd and Murph in /08, I guess. But Murph would have to move back to A2 and I think he’s happier taking his pot shots from a distance.

Knowledge isn’t something you get in school. That’s called an education, sonny.

  38. Get off my lawn, dadgummit!

  39. As nice as it would be to see candidates from other parties, there won’t be any Republicans, Greens, Libertarians, or any other party candidates in November’s general election. The deadline to file with a party affiliation passed in June.

However, independent candidates can still register. I think the deadline for that is just a day or two before the generals. It would be great to see a committed resident or two mount an independent challenge. I suppose Wendy Woods could even go the Lieberman route and run in the generals without a party affiliation, but that would be less cool.

  40. You can’t win an election in one party AA if you are not a Dem. The primary IS the general election.

For the record, I do NOT own a home in the OWS.

  41. Being on vacation this week, I drove to Columbus to see a garden. Because that’s the kind of thing I do. I normally vote in all elections but just don’t seem to give a damn. Which is ironic. I got my American citizenship to be able to vote!
