Lower Town Wiki
Looks like Lower Town is the “older residential area” considering some creative zoning approaches. Their “vision”:
We are dedicated to the protection and improvement of the life of our distinctive area of the city.
We believe that the best qualities of our Northside neighborhood can be sustained through effective consultation and planning, in a spirit of tolerance and cooperation.
We hold that the distinctive boundaries of our present neighborhood are the Huron River to the west and south, Barton Drive to the north, and Plymouth Road to the east.
Now those are some strong convictions. Or they’re stealing a page from Stephen Colbert (”I believe in America. I believe it exists. My gut tells me I live there. I feel that it extends from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and I strongly believe it has 50 states.”)
“IV. Pontiac Trail Traffic. We are concerned by the safety issues raised by the high volumes of commuting traffic on Pontiac Trail and call for the calming traffic and directing it to other routes.”
Uh, I live on Pontiac south of Barton with two small kids who could get plastered by traffic but am I nuts to assume that a road that runs all the way to Pontiac should be expected to have a fair amount of traffic? Direct it where - someone else’s neighborhood? As for traffic calming - if they mean those stupid curb bump outs or speed humps I’ll be out there at night with a hammer and chisel taking them out. Wanna calm traffic - enforce the speed limit. First person they’ll nab doing 5 over is me pulling into my driveway.
All that said, I do kinda like the idea of a neighborhood association. The one back in the Mott Park area of Flint when I lived there did a lot of good stuff. The worry in a town like Ann Arbor is what will it do. Cookout at Beckley Park - cool, try to turn Pontiac into a hippy pedestrian mall for soy powered jitneys and bikes - not so cool.
Northsideee!

Lower Town Ann Arbor: look it up in your gut.

Not guilty.

posted by pam on April 29th, 2007 at 4:45 pmHeidi, the elephant reference is a nod to wikiality. For the truthiness on that, look it up. I didn’t.
posted by FAA on April 29th, 2007 at 6:31 pmSounds like someone is a little over-obsessed with a city they apparently don’t like too much. Get another hobby, or continue as you are and have your life filled with anger and negativity, your choice.
posted by Louise on April 30th, 2007 at 7:13 pmLouise, it’s meant to be funny, more or less. I certainly find it so ( and I love Ann Arbor ). You might consider taking a bit of your own advice, or something close to it. How about this; learn to laugh at yourself, or continue as you are and have a life filled with anger and negativity. Your choice.

Translation: I urge you to go home and look in the mirror and pray that you do not succumb to the path of fear! And sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion!
posted by Constantine on May 1st, 2007 at 2:11 pmI can’t believe that some people don’t have anything better to do with their time than complain about people who don’t have anything better with their time than complain.
(Now, please don’t complain about my not having anything better to do with my time than complain about people who don’t have anything better to do with their time than complain about people who don’t have anything better with their time than complain, because this could get tedious eventually.)
