Sometimes You Need a Weatherman

Libertyblog characterizes the name of weather site Weather Underground as “retro terror chic,” noting that it “operates out of, you might have guessed it, Ann Arbor (MI).”

  1. Wow, their every-ten-minutes posting cycle is full of the links and blockquoting I expect from quality blogs. Too bad he’s about thirteen years late to the party on this tidbit.

  2. Love the “Is propriety dead?” line. In posts immediately proceeding the Weather Underground post the blogger calls San Francisco “Sodom-by-the-Sea” and points out that although the two head coaches in the recent Super Bowl were African-Americans, the light-skinned guy won and the dark-skinned guy lost. So, clearly, this insightful social critic is on to something here with this Weather Underground stuff.

  3. Yup, Squid, that blogger is clearly a piece of work.

  4. Love the “retro terror chic” of the George Wash icon in the upper corner of the blog. Too bad our finest revolutionary needed Ben Franklin as his original ‘Weatherman,’ tho– the irony is a little spoiled.

  5. What is this guy’s point anyway?

I suppose that he’s going to notice that the predominate color on Valentine’s Day is red which will lead to some sort of insightful commentary on how Valentine’s Day is really a Communist holiday in disguise.

  6. yikes! that is one ugly web site. not to mention that it rejects usability. as ethnographic qualities, this site was clearly build for Americans, a culture group with a high tolerance for uncertainty avoidance. The site’s architecture reminds me of amazon, a historically bad design. i would have expected more from a fellow AA’rite.

  7. Ann Arbor Parks to parking lots?

We are writing about Friday’s AA news article in which counsel members proposed to turn our various parks in and around the city Ann Arbor into temporary parking lots for University of Michigan football games. It is this sort of flagrant disregard of our natural resources that showcases how a majority counsel members no longer reflect the core values of Ann Arbor residents.

The main reasons for having parks within the city is to provide neighbors and friends with an opportunity to meet up and to take a break from daily rigors of life. Whether it’s walking with a trusted pet or cavorting with the kids; the parks are for the people of Ann Arbor not out of town cars!

We pay for this luxury and park maintenance with our tax dollars! We have no interest in having to explain to our son and his friends that the reason we can’t go play in the park is that they’re filled with cars!

Also, for years Ann Arbor residents have asked for dog parks, facilities set aside for dogs and their owners to exercise and play off-leash in a controlled environment. It would behoove counsel members to discuss proposals to enhance the parks rather then turning them into parking lots.

    Sincerely,
