Remember Those Days Hanging Out at the Barton Green
Arbor Update links to a memo on the proposed Barton Green development, detailing the complaints of nearby residents who don’t want the condo development built, and, if it is built, want it completely cut off from their own neighborhood. One resident “pointed out that Ann Arbor was known for its parks, quality of life and neighborhoods.” Another said that “he chose this area because it did not consist of a lot of condominiums, which was what the outskirts of Ann Arbor was beginning to look like.” It’s always a good idea to move closer to the center of town when trying to avoid density. Actually, in A2 that may not be bad advice. One speaker said that “he chose this neighborhood because he cherished its peacefulness and low amount of traffic.” Well, we chose our current residence because we cherished its (not really so) low amount of rent. If that ever changes, we expect a public hearing.
I just can’t understand this town sometimes. This’ll be a development within the city limits building up tax base and not sprawling out into the countryside. Isn’t that supposed to be a good thing? These jokers need to look at a Google hybrid map of their neighborhood ( http://www.google.com/maps?ie=UTF8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en&q=&z=15&ll=42.309593,-83.730712&spn=0.015678,0.028925&t=h&om=1 ) and see that years ago their neighborhood was a development cut out of a nature area, as was the whole frickin’ town.
Personally I hate roads that don’t connect together in neighborhoods and the folks around there have two neighborhood parks (Huron Highlands and Cloverdale) plus they’re close to Olsen, Black Pond, Leslie and all kinds of natural areas. We’re not starving for parks on the northside.
What they really need is Huron Parkway to come smashing thru there and hooking up to the highway but the NIMBY’s killed that years ago. Where’s Robert Moses when we need him?
As an aside - it’s a pretty cool satellite image - they got the train coming thru that day - look north of Dhu Varren around Carrot Way.

posted by Anon on January 22nd, 2007 at 11:56 amWell, if it’s posted here, isn’t that the same as the news being broken? I mean, comparing the Ann Arbor News to this esteemed website, I’d bet more people get their news from here than probably should ™….

posted by Daniel on January 23rd, 2007 at 3:29 pmIt’s a different project. They’re opening a data center in western NC (not RTP).

Most of Cringley’s columns start with “this guy I know told me…”. on which the rest of his arguments hang. He’s just a more fit John Dvorak.
