Left Behind at the Fishbowl
Now here’s the kind of A2 found-object enterprise we can get behind; no arty pretensions, no author/rapper/self-promoter frontman, just a little off-kilter voyeurism. And it’s free.

I’m going to start planting things in the fishbowl printers just to see if they show up on this page. I love it.

posted by Emily on October 8th, 2006 at 6:02 pmMan, you guys need to get off of found magazine’s dick…this is the 4th or 5th time perhaps that I’ve seen them getting ripped on here. Why can’t you get behind an Ann Arbor project like found that, regardless of how original or unoriginal you think it to be, is at least interesting and successful?
posted by lb on October 9th, 2006 at 3:26 pmBecause it is overrated and therefore fair game for AAIO.

There has been in incredible amount of MISINFORMATION published in the media and in online blogs here and elsewhere.
Pacifist Christians and other groups are taking the game material out of context to support their own causes. There is NO “killing in the name of God†and NO “convert or dieâ€. There are NO “negative portrayals of Muslims†and there are NO “points for killingâ€.
Please play the game demo for yourself (to at least level 5 of 40) to get an accurate perspective, or listen to what CREDIBLE unbiased experts are saying after reviewing the game at www.leftbehindgames.com/pages/controversy.com
Then, we’d love to hear your feedback as an informed player.
The reality is that we’re receiving reports everyday of how this game is positively affecting lives by all who play it.
Thank you for taking the time to be a responsible blogger.

posted by abc on January 17th, 2007 at 8:04 amwow, left behind games is a publicly traded company.
this game, their first, was released in 11/06.
back in 10/06, LFBG traded for $7.50 a share … but it’s been down down down in a burning ring of fire since then, and they now trade for a buck and change.
praise the lord!
posted by peter honeyman on January 17th, 2007 at 8:15 am‘pacifist christians??? like there is any other kind?’ Apparently ‘pacifist christians’ are the minority. The below is taken from the FAQ portion of their website.
The storyline in the game begins just after the Rapture has occurred – when all adult Christians, all infants, and many children were instantly swept home to Heaven and off the Earth by God. The remaining population – those who were left behind – are then poised to make a decision at some point. They cannot remain neutral. Their choice is to either join the AntiChrist – which is an imposturous one world government seeking peace for all of mankind, or they may join the Tribulation Force – which seeks to expose the truth and defend themselves against the forces of the AntiChrist.
LEFT BEHIND: Eternal Forces was developed to provide an alternative form of entertainment to those desiring more positive game content, while still engaging core gamers in battle. The difference is that our game features fictional battles set on the stage of an apocalyptic world. Our game includes no intestines, no blood spatter, no severed limbs, no vulgar language, no sexual conduct, no morally reprehensible conduct – such as cop-killing, prostitute-bashing, or other criminal behavior, no Bible-bashing believers, no Bible thumpers, no radical extremists killing in the name of God, no abortion clinic stalkers…or other such content in the games you mention.
Christians are quite clearly taught to turn the other cheek and to love their enemies. It is equally true that no one should forfeit their lives to an aggressor who is bent on inflicting death. Forgiveness does not require absolute defenselessness. Apparent contradictions on behalf of Christians are often the result of them placing greater importance on the message, than in caring for others. LEFT BEHIND: Eternal Forces is a game which provides great entertainment while encouraging fascinating discussions about matters of eternal importance.

yeah, i need a new game, one with no intestines.
posted by peter honeyman on January 17th, 2007 at 11:22 amI can’t stop giggling over the fact that an item about items “left behind” at the Fishbowl was assumed (by some bot or flunky) to be bloggers bashing the a computer game.
It’s reminiscent of Serdar Argic, perhaps the first Internet spammer, who posted thousands of Turkish nationalist and anti-Armenian screeds on Usenet in response, e.g., to occurrences of the word “turkey”, regardless of whether the country or the bird was referenced.

posted by peter honeyman on January 17th, 2007 at 1:01 pmI have played the demo - and that even makes it scarier. Forget the fact that it is bloodless. There are bodies piled up of people killed by the so-called “Christians” who carry high tech weapons and use them to kill who they think are the forces of the antiChrist.
It is frightening to see that the Left Behind Games people are willing to support killing (uh hem - “defending”) in the name of Christ. This is the equivalent of Islamofascists calling for the death of the infidels who they perceive are attacking their way of life.
Left Behind is calling for a Christian jihad - and it is the same thinking that led to the crusades and inquisition where thousands lost their lives because of what they thought.
Fundamentalists are showing their hand - willing to use violence in the name of Christ. They spit out the term “Christian Pacifist” as if it’s evil.
Jesus was the ultimate “Christian Pacifist” - He laid down His life. It’s time to wake up and see that these so-called “Christians” are taking America in a very scary direction. They are reviving the beast power of Revelation and themselves are representing the true antiChrist.

I would say that this sentiment should not be in the present tense. Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, Ralph Reed, and their organizations; the Moral Majority, the Heritage Foundation, the Family Research Council, etc. all came into the limelight of the religious right in the 1970’s and 1980’s. This is not new and the most insidious aspect of it is not that they have infiltrated the gaming world. Their charge in the 80’s and 90’s was to infiltrate the school boards, and all across the country they did. Now we spend millions of dollars defending Darwin, explaining what we know of the Big Bang, and fighting to keep creationalism (or whatever it is called) out of the classroom.
posted by abc on January 23rd, 2007 at 8:57 amHey, with so many people having an opinion about this game, how many have actually played it? And what credibility do they have?
