I Remember a Councilmember Sleeping Next to Me, Voting on the Metro (202)

Well, huh. Who would have guessed that the council’s second NIMBYest member would facilitate a second vote on a project that he successfully voted to defeat because of his perennial concerns about building height? If this is Stephen Rapundalo’s attempt to make himself look like a fair-minded guy, it’s kind of working.

  1. Hmm… Strange… From the article:

Kent Burkhart, who owns property at 336 E. Washington St. adjacent to Metro 202, has been against the project…Burkhart said the building’s balconies would hang over his backyard and would block the sun from his property.

Okay, maybe that isn’t so strange in this town. Except, this is the same person who opposed the Gallery Luxury Flats + Penthouses because he owns a building which will be in a near permanent shadow of it.

Now, either this man - realizing the fault with the failed CARD signature collection route - has taken to buying real estate next to prime building lots upon which could someday reside a shadow casting structure as a means to use his shadow casting defense to attempt to halt development, or he just really hates shadows. You decide.

  2. A bit of a stretch for the Berlin ref… but still funny.

  3. Yeah, this already doesn’t scan, but “I remember a councilmember abstaining next to me because his law firm worked for the developer” would have been more accurate but so much worse.

  4. Haven’t seen the vote yet (….), but here’s my Arblogger post about my visit to AACC tonite re M-202.
