Not Everyone Aware of A2’s Greatness Yet
“A few months ago, I mentioned that I’d just met a middle-aged Grand Rapids woman who had never been to Ann Arbor until that day. I wondered if that proved A-squared is not in fact the center of the universe,” writes Jo Mathis. But wait — it gets even better. She manages to find a guy out there who didn’t hear about Tree Town until he was in his twenties.
Shockingly enough, I’d never heard of the hold bower until I was in my ( wait for it ) MID THIRTIES. The horrors.

posted by JJ DL on August 30th, 2006 at 11:39 amOne of the more surprising things about the guy who had never heard of Ann Arbor is that he is from Warren. Since quite a few green highway signs in the Detroit area say “To Ann Arbor” this must mean that he didn’t drive much, or at least he didn’t read signs when he drove. A guilable columnist, perhaps? I think Jo Mathis does stories on haunted houses in the AA area from time to time.

Sorry, Halloween not yet.
posted by David Boyle on August 30th, 2006 at 11:28 pmI don’t know why Ann Arborites would be surprised that people from other Michigan cities haven’t visited A2. I mean, how many Ann Arborites have visited Grand Rapids lately? Or Dearborn? Or Detroit? Or… Ypsilanti?!
I’m often amazed that while many Ann Arboties have no trouble leaving their beloved city to visit tropical islands, European hotspots, and either U.S. coast, they can’t manage to venture far in their own state.
Yes, Ann Arbor is nice. but so are a lot of other cities. Be brave! Cross city lines and discover other local cities!
