The Relentless Pursuit of Affectation

As if watching our favorite Red Sox pitcher, Matt Clement, crumble against the Yankees the other night weren’t enough, we also got to watch the new Lexus of Ann Arbor commercial, in which a woman with an extremely affected-sounding British accent repeatedly intones, “Lexus of Ann Arbo(u)r.” They certainly seem to have done their market research.

  1. I get a double scroll bar at the bottom and can’t read the bottom line. What a great web site.

  2. It was funny; I turned to a friend and mocked that commercial in the exact same way when it came on.

I guess Ann Arbor must have a sizable phony-Brits-with-lots-of-money demographic.

  3. When I looked at the site earlier today, all the menu items said “undefined” in elegant sans-serif, but at least that seems to work now. The title still says “a [sic] Ann Arbor, Michigan Lexus dealer.”

Some people pay consultants $100/hour to test their websites and we’re doing it for free!

  4. Yes, the double scroll bar is a visual treat you don’t see too often. And using the drop-down menus at top (on the home page) offers a challenging reflex test. Also, when attempting to escape the CPU-grabbing home page animation, I find that the site resists being opened in tabs — nice of them to enforce current Internet Exploder standards. On the content side, am disappointed that I can’t seem to find anyone on the site who speaks in a faux Brit accent, and where is that Nexis model that I keep hearing about on NPR while sitting in my driveway?

  5. That is too funny … and too sad. Who are these people taking over Ann Arbor. It’s like invasion of the hippie turned yuppie body snatchers…

    Go Yanks!

  6. And Ann Arbor is the only place in the U.S. where a cheesy British accent is used to sell luxury items?

  7. Shut your fucking bitching and dont read it you fucking cunt

  8. uh oh, sounds like somebody’s got a case of the mondays

  9. Psycho.

  10. Quite articulate. Is this person the product of AA schools?

  11. Ouch. Looks like Overrated has a rather unpleasant alter ego.

  12. That must be the A^2Lexus web designer. It all makes sense now.

  13. Either that or A2’s summer daytime drinking season is in full swing.

  14. God, I know people who live in Ann Arbor that have the fake accent because they think it is cool. But I just want to tell them they were born in Ypslanti, MI.
