Blogging Ann Arbor
The new anthology Writing Ann Arbor is 24 pages long and costs $39.95, according to Metro Times. We can’t imagine a more appropriate tribute. (Unfortunately, it’s probably a typo; the book’s Amazon page lists it at 224 pages.)

Aw, AAIO, you forgot to come up with a new title for this one.

I don’t find any of the “utopian†visions of the 1960s these days — more like the practical agendas that Miller and his fellow writer Robert Hayden remembered from his Depression days in Ann Arbor. The computer revolution of the last 20 years has cast activism into a somewhat quieter form on campus.”
I really like this statement by Goldstein.
posted by Sketchy on December 2nd, 2005 at 4:44 pm… the interesting thing is that you won’t see the “counter culture” that has “ramped up again” on (U of M’s) campus. You’re more likely to see it down on Ashley and Liberty. It isn’t the “Seva” or “Jerusalem Garden” kind of counter culture (ie: “I’m kind of a purist when it comes to food.”) on that side of Main Street. Down there, it’s the taggers and the “Debauchery Will Get Your Ass” kind of counter culture.
posted by Sketchy on December 3rd, 2005 at 1:02 amum yeah, the west side of main street is way more radical. the fleetwood is there.

posted by uniqueolive on December 5th, 2005 at 10:53 amI have a nice tale of the Fleetwood from Friday night. Once I get off my arse and blog it, hopefully later today. It didn’t involve culture of any sort though, just fists and cop cars.
posted by Dave on December 5th, 2005 at 12:01 pmRumor again has it that the Greasewood will close in Feb. This from workers. But it might be a ploy for more tips.
posted by leighton on December 5th, 2005 at 2:20 pmLove the term “Greasewood”. Reminds me of the scene in the kitchen and basement of the place.
posted by Skyhawk on December 7th, 2005 at 1:46 pmAhem. Fleetwood NOT in immediate danger. I think it’s all hearsay. I’ve been hearing this rumor for 8 months.
posted by Brandon on December 7th, 2005 at 5:12 pmWell, after reading the comments thread on that post, I still don’t know what to believe re: the Fleetwood et al.
