A2 becomes even more like Manhattan with its very own overheard blog. What’s next, Arbor Stalker?

Wow. That site is both horribly banal and far less entertaining than the New York version, which killed a good amount of my time a few days ago, thanks AAiO.
Eh, I still submitted my favorite quote from a few years ago on the Northwood bus:
Girl 1: What’s a Gin and Tonic?
Girl 2: I don’t know. Sounds like a girl drink.
and no, I didn’t steal that from the Simpsons. Pure freshman-orientation-week goodness.
I was on the Bursley-Baits at the beginning of September and overheard a cellphone conversation in which a girl was trying to decide whether to do rush or join the College Republicans. She didn’t think she’d have time for both. “Rush would be super fun but would take up like ALL of my time for the next three weeks! The College Republicans are doing all these great activities and hosting speakers, like this woman who’s going to speak about her career in the CIA tonight, and I want to go, except it’s at the same time as the season premiere of the OC, and I just can’t miss that!”
hey, i’m the moderator of that site. i just noticed that one of the quotes that one of the contributors added was in fact from the New York version. i’ve made a statement concerning this, and have deleted the fradulent post. we enjoy the NY version, and we’re just trying collect some of the stuff we hear around campus. i presume you made the comment on that post about the Urban Outfitters quote…if you see any on there that are from NY again, please let me know so i can take care of it accordingly.
and p.s. - thanks at least for the link - we’ve had a huge surge in hits…too bad we had a fradulent quote.
That’s what Google is for. Although I do hope that’s how you found the match, and didn’t just read the New York one straight through. That thing is ridiculously long.
Good luck to ya. I’ll take it with good faith that once you get more submissions the quality will go up since you can pick ‘n choose.
AAiO - out of curiosity, how many hits do you get on this site? This site gets far, far fewer comments than the other-discussion site I frequent, but after the call from the landlord rep I’m wondering how many people are in the shadows.
also, the fact that we made this for ann arbor had nothing to do with this idea that ann arbor is like a small new york. i’d never heard that comparison and it played no factor in the creation of the website.
PS - Maybe I should make a disclaimer that I’m a jaded and cynical 20-something and everything is banal to me these days. Wow. Don’t take it terribly personally, and feel free to sign Jen to the quote instead of the email address if you desire. As I said, when volume goes up the quality probably will as well.
When I saw the comment on the fradulent quote, I searched Google for it, and found that it surely was from the NY one. I didn’t think I’d have to cross check quotes, but I guess I will from now on.
Thanks for the encouragement. The fact that I featured that quote in a local satirical newspaper to publicize the site and unassumingly attributed it to the Urban Outfitters on State St. has gotten me a bit frustrated today. I made a notice post about that too, if anyone is wondering. Who knew this would cause such headache.
I definitely appreciate having a new local blog to check. If I could only remember what I overheard outside the Union about the Chi-O’s having shirts that totally ripped off this other sorority by saying “New Chi’s on the Block” instead of “New Phi’s on the Block”, I’d send it in.
