The Lamest Post
Sorry about the light posting lately — first we were scratching our head over the lack of overratedness in Ann Arbor, and now we seem to have some kind of fever. We’ll be back when we’re feeling better, or when the News runs the first “brace for the hordes of dirty, noisy students!!” column of the year.
You mean they haven’t started yet? Wow, they need to pick up the pace!!

my favorite line:
posted by Brett on August 30th, 2005 at 12:31 pm“as much as we dislike the noise, crowds and traffic they bring with them, we also have to appreciate the energy, curiosity and wit that comes with people too young to know better.”
I realized the students were returning as I went to Meijer the other night and had to wait in line. But then, if it weren’t for the students this area would be worse than it is now. So can’t complain too much…..
posted by Kozzie on August 30th, 2005 at 1:34 pmOh dear. There’s a football game Saturday? Damnit.
So I have two whole days to get used to the tourists who are going to hit up both the farmer’s market and the football game?
At least the students (generally) walk to both.
“by the time the semester starts, it’s too late to turn away and try to return to those halcyon summertime days already behind you.”
That quote is my favorite. At least in the column Brett linked to it’s gentle. I love hearing variations of it from people with true bitterness in their voice, because the local businesses and city they love so much could withstand 12 months of a summer-sized population. Take the good with the bad and stop whining. The city you treasure so much that the students are willy-nilly destroying probably would only exist as a shell of itself without them.
I like the emptiness of Ann Arbor in the summer too, but it’s not like fall doesn’t come every year. I’m not saying anything new, I’m just getting more and more sick of that shit. Not from the column linked, though - that was alright in a quaint grandfather-y sort of way.

Yes, that was a shameless plug. Come out for some dancable, sunny indie-pop/rock on Labor Day, you bitter hipsters. Plus, proceeds go to stickin’-it-to NIMBYs.
Oh, and there’s this for all you folkies, too.

posted by HNG on September 1st, 2005 at 8:33 pmThe dirty, noisy students should check out my next door neighbor’s band, The Logic of Elliott. They’re playing at the Elbow Room in Ypsi on Friday, 9/9. All women. They’re getting pretty good, I think.
