News Takes Students Seriously?

The News runs a good overview of recently increasing student involvement in local politics through the Eugene Kang candidacy, the New West Side Association and something called “Web page blogs.” We’d like to know what the first sentence was; “Yet few would argue that college students have a say in the Ann Arbor political arena” probably wasn’t it.

  1. I’ve been noticing some lead-clipping issues on their website lately. The one yesterday previewing the Calthorpe lecture was the same way.

  2. Maybe the “Yet” is referring to the headline as the first line of the article?

  3. Seeing how ‘blog’ is actually short for ‘weblog’, I feel pretty sure there’s some sort of tautology there. Like The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim translating to The The Angels Angels of Anaheim, only Ann Arbor news style.

  4. I didn’t realize Kang’s brother was a big shot at FOX (from yesterday’s News article). I hope that money does some good. Anybody seen Kang yard signs or flyers?

  5. I think I saw one–I live in the 2nd Ward (and obviously intend to vote for the guy). I think I might troll around this evening and see if there are any others…

  6. Sam: Sellout!

  7. Yeah, saw a couple of others yesterday evening–I had no idea some of the neighborhoods behind my house were so palatial… just gives you some idea about the wealth disparity in this town and others…

  8. Hey, if anyone would like a Kang yard sign, please let me know. I’ve got ten in my garage I’d love to give away. Even if you don’t live in Ward 2, you could still have your very own…I really appreciate all your comments and attention to Eugene’s campaign. We’re listening, if you have any suggestions.

    Sincerely,
    Charlotte Boulay (campaign manager)

  9. My parents live in the 2nd ward, and there is a Kang yard sign in that neighborhood.

  10. Oi, Brian! Small world. And shut it, I was posting under this name here before you were spawned. I just slow down over the summer.

  11. In what could be an all-time journalism low for Ann Arbor, John Hinchey and the Ann Arbor Observer ran an entire piece on this election “mispelling” Euguene Kang’s name as Eugene “Wang” throughout the piece in the August 2005 issue. It’s completely ridiculous and offensive that it’s apparently too difficult to verify the correct spelling of a very simple and common 4-letter Korean surname yet somehow manage to get everyone else’s right.
