I’ll Take “Manhattans of the Midwest” for $4500
Even when told that it’s a two-word college town whose name contains a female name and a natural feature of the area, three contestants couldn’t come up with A2 in Final Jeopardy! Had they gotten it right, the contestants should have received 1.6 times what they bet in order to keep pace with A2 inflation.
WTF; no one even considered about Princess Anne, MD.

Actually a friend read the clue over the phone to me and I didn’t know the answer. However, after this happened to me, I decided to do a little research on the name of A2, and it appears to me that the clue was actually incorrect. It mentioned the wives of the founders when in fact, it was the settlers themselves. I’m just saying, Alex holds a little responsibility for this.
posted by Josie Ann Lee on July 6th, 2005 at 10:28 am eThe way I learned it (and this is just probably a made up “truth” from my childhood here it is that the name was originally Ann’s Arbor (for the two wives of the settlers…both name, duh, Ann). Maybe one had an “e” at the end of her name, but instead of Ann(e)’s Arbor, they went with the plural Ann.
Then, they shortened it to Ann Arbor.
Many people have not heard of our fair city it’s true — I get “Ann Harbor” on my mail. But, I usually said “Detroit” when travelling afar and asked where I’m from. If there’s some recognition, then I say AA. Then, the next subject always seems to be football. Sigh.
