It’s Oh So Quiet

Jo Mathis makes the case for A2 as a great place to retire. Says one local retiree, “It has everything a big city could offer, but it’s a lot quieter.” It also has everything a seaport could offer, but it’s a lot more landlocked. And everything a tropical island could offer, but it’s a lot colder.

  1. Every late night I’m up studying for finals, I will take a moment, and–with Wally and Barb as my inspiration and guiding light–dream of my retirement villa in South Lyon. I can now go strong for another 15 minutes tonight.

Everything a big city can offer…oh, right, except for the the, um, what’s that…oh, right: big city. This place wouldn’t be half as bad if people wouldn’t make it out to be something it’s not. It’s a small city/college town. It’s an alright place to live, and meets reasonable expectations of a small city/college town. There - enough, stop there. It’s this “most cosmopolitan small city in [insert “the midwest,” “the world,” “southeast Southeast Michigan” - your choice]” business…

  2. Really good work. I found a lot of profound information which can help me to go on. Thanks for all this input.

  3. Heh. Sybill’s my new favorite spammer.

  5. REALLY cute joke, even if it hangs the browser.

  6. I give my props , though, to the 75 year old woman taking intermediate Chinese. That’s bitchin, if you ask me. I could hardly learn intermediate Japanese and I’m 50 years her junior.

  7. “‘This area is ideal,’ he said, noting the culture, access to Metro Airport and lakes.”

Using access to the airport - a place solely designed to help you get out of said ideal area - as an argument for the ideal-ness of that area - see anything wrong with that? Reminds me of the Grand Rapids Chamber of Commerce brochure, which features promimently, on page 2, a list of the proximity to other cities.

  8. I like being close to the airport for that very reason–I don’t see anything wrong with that. A definite bonus.

  9. And here I thought you would comment on how a salamander could hold up the building of the new high school…:)
