Since We’ve No Place to Go
You probably thought that we were going to post something complaining about yesterday’s snowfall. Well, we’re not. We actually thought it was pretty cool; for one glorious day, everyone else was as miserable in A2 as we are. Of course, the News manages to put their familiar “it’s not as bad as other places in Michigan” spin on it, like they’ve done for everything from tornadoes to poor air quality, in a story titled “Snow spares area but slams Oakland“. By “spares” they mean “dumps 6 1/2 rather than 16 inches of freezing slush on everything.”
Shit, I thought it was completely beautiful.
posted by greg on April 25th, 2005 at 1:56 pmIt was a great consistency for snowballs to hurl at unknowing Ann Arbor residents from my balcony!
posted by DrMandrake on April 25th, 2005 at 1:58 pmWell, I thought it was total bullshit, but whatever. It’s pretty much what I expect, living here now, as I do.
However, I think my neighbors built a giant snow dick. I saw it out of the corner of my eye as I was leaving for work this morning. I was too sleep addled to really look closely.
posted by mulligatawny on April 25th, 2005 at 2:04 pmI wasn’t in favor either, especially since I didn’t think it was going to hit that temperature and consequently caught my present head cold. That’s what I get for living in Ann Arbor…
posted by Lazaro on April 25th, 2005 at 2:06 pmconstant head colds?

posted by Dave on April 25th, 2005 at 3:52 pmSnow in April? Boring. I’m waiting for more of the green-skied, driving hail, tornado-whelping weather we had last summer.
posted by Murph on April 25th, 2005 at 4:16 pmYeah, Arbour Birkinstocks stay safely hidden away a little longer. Snow spares us the name and female hairy hobbit toes for a few more days!
posted by Leighton on April 25th, 2005 at 5:18 pmSnow: For me it was awesome in a surprising sort of way (for about an hour).
Hairy hobbit toes: you should probably be least worried about the female ones.
posted by Amy on April 25th, 2005 at 6:08 pmSupposedly it’s all in our heads. The abnormally long warm spell in April weather just tricked us. The latest recorded (accumulated) snowfalls in this neck of the woods are, generally, late May (the 20th-25th). So I guess it’s not “location, location, location” it’s “expectation, expectation, expectation”. In so many ways.
I’m moving to Memphis on Sat. for the summer, so I took the cold while I could get it. The only slush in the south this time of year comes in slurpee form.
posted by Heidi on April 25th, 2005 at 6:50 pmWow. If ya’ll don’t can tell the difference in bullshittedness between 6 and 16 inches of snow, you just haven’t been in Michigan long enough.
6 inches? Pretty and fun. 16? Hibernation time.
posted by Anonymous on April 25th, 2005 at 8:46 pmI loved it, for once I could enjoy the snow WITHOUT having to dodge all of you on the sidewalks who dont realize there is big orange jeep with a huge noisey broom on the front, trying to clear it, behind you.
posted by jeepdriver on April 25th, 2005 at 9:34 pmI was in Miami, FL.
Ha ha!
posted by David on April 25th, 2005 at 11:33 pmI loved it and hibernated despite the mere 6 inches, emerging only to take pictures of the snow on various blooming things in the yard. Very unusual and pretty.
