Heck, Even Champaign

Tuesday, August 10th, 2004

The News actually comes out against the couch ban in a Sunday editorial. Sometimes friends can be found in the most unexpected places.

Also, a man from Evanston is convinced (reg. req.) that “Madison, Ann Arbor, heck, even Champaign, Dekalb and Normal” are superior to his own community in “feel, ambience [and] all the unique little independent retailers.”

We Hope It’s Not Contagious

In the A2 equivalent of capturing Osama the first week of November, a mysterious “rash of couch fires” has overtaken the Central Campus area.

Saturday, In the Park(ing Lot)

Some Stone School neighbors are less than pleased with the school’s plan to pave over what they call a park and others consider a field behind the school (via the Ann Arbor News forums.) “Should we tell the school children that the AAPS paves over park areas without even exploring alternatives?” they ask. Reading the forum posts, we noticed that ever since that Observer piece about Doug Cowherd appeared, Dicken Woods and Sunset Ridge (referred to in the article as “pieces of shit” by a city employee, if you recall, but don’t tell the schoolchildren) have become bywords for parks of dubious value created when neighborhood associations want to stop nearby development.

Also, one of the more disturbing pieces of recent violence news appeared in today’s News - a woman scares away a masked intruder who broke into her Old Fourth Ward apartment and tried to sexually assault her.

So who’s interested in some kind of August meetup before those couch-sitting students come back and ruin everything?
