Is it just me or has Zingerman’s declined in quality in the past couple of years? I remember the first time I went there, it was pretty awesome. Good sandwich, nice portions, etc. The only problem was that there wasn’t a place to sit. I think they jumped the shark when they opened the place next door.
I think that Zingerman’s is the sort of thing that’s always awesome the first time and then the whole institution begins to grate at you until you can’t stomach another $9 sandwich, no matter how good, when you could just go to Jimmy John’s and satisfy your hunger for a third of the price. Zingerman’s bread still is some of the best I’ve ever eaten, though, so I’ll pay $5 for a loaf to avoid the pitiful attempts Meijer (and other grocery stores) make at baking crusty breads, which just end up rather spongey.
Bella Napoli pizza ( and other Italian treats) is better than NYPD. Check out real Italian fare at the Colonnade. Anthony’s has the best gourmet pizza in town and, imho.
Nah, there’s more to my current dislike of Zingerman’s than the $9 sandwiches. I’m willing to pay that for good food, it just hasn’t been that great lately.
I think I would rather cling to the idea that a Marvel Comics villian is terrorizing Ann Arbor than dwell on the Bush-created mess that is American these days, thank you very much.
:)
(Are the couches really that big of a safety issue? I always understood that to be a somewhat weak arguement people used to jusifiy the fact that they weren’t aesthetically pleasing.)
Or are you saying it moved to the Colonnade, as someone alluded to in another post. Hmm. I’m wrong, then. I’ll admit I never get down in that area much.
A) I’m permanent, voting, full-time, working resident.
B) Even when I was a student, I never moved anywhere else for part of the year.
C) I indeed try to stay away from that strip-mall land down by I-94 and walk/bike as much as possible. Moreover, living on the north side, when I do drive to a strip mall, it is typically one on Plymouth Road.
Maybe, this is an act to promote The Punisher the movie. =)
yawn…
posted by __earth on July 1st, 2004 at 1:59 pmNorth Division is becoming a very dangerous place. Zingerman’s might have to install iron gates over their windows.
posted by mucho gusto on July 1st, 2004 at 3:32 pmI guess it’s more effective than trying to rob someone wearing a “The Passion” shirt.
Though no less scary.

posted by mucho (hungry) gusto on July 4th, 2004 at 10:54 amI, for one, am terrified by the idea that the Punisher is running amok in Ann Arbor, bent on wreaking revenge on all who dwell there.
posted by art student on July 4th, 2004 at 9:10 pmOne incident constitutes running amok?
There’s more to fear from porch couch fires than from the “Punisher”. There’s more to fear from an environmentally threatened planet.
art student, the world is a dangerous place. It is now and it was before 9/11.
