Low Rent

A poster at the Ann Arbor News forums blames the landlord at the Packard Street drug house that was busted recently for the criminal activity taking place there - the rent he charged was too low to “keep out the riff raff.” (Is “riff raff” one word or two?)

  1. Personally, I blame the landlord for causing me to contribute the FIRST~!!!!!11!! post to this section of viewer commentary.

  2. I know Mr Tedla. He’s a good hearted fellow who does not condone or encourage drug use. He’s really a softy who wants to believe the best about people. Yeah, his rental house is a mess, but his rents were low. I’m not supporting his lack of management or maintenance, but he’s a “live and let live” kind of person. He doesn’t deserve harassment by the A2 News or the cops

  3. It was also too cheap to keep out Magenta, Columbia and Dr. Frankenfurter.
Blaming the landlord is stupid, and railing against cheap rent is stupid. I hope that Tedla never sees that post.
What I will say is that house has been known for dealing drugs for at least seven years now, and I’m not amazed in the slightest that they got busted (that’s what happens when you sell drugs to strangers on your front lawn)…

  4. When in doubt, hyphenate.

  5. Someone have a link to this story? Is this the house by Cottage Inn at Hill?

  7. So low rent encourages “criminal” drug activity. I guess the poster must really dislike Ypsi.

  8. Riff raff need housing, too….

  9. riff-raff, isn’t that an ac/dc song from the Bon Scott era?

  10. Wouldn’t it be exactly the opposite? I would think that rent that was too *high* would encourage the riff-raff to sell drugs to support their not-freezing-to-death habit…
