A2 Makes the Smoking Gun, Again
Don’t blame Tom Brady, he voted for…well, actually, he didn’t vote in any A2 elections, which means we can’t hold him responsible for any of our current councilmembers.

I’m out of the loop. Who is Tom Brady?

Oh. Thanks — I’m relieved. I thought I already knew of most of the major Democratic candidates.
posted by Anna on January 27th, 2004 at 12:12 pm eOh, sorry - I assumed that even though I just found out who he was a couple days ago, no one else could be more out of it with regard to sports than I am.

Is Ann Arbor so miserable that even Google doesn’t work there?
posted by Kraken on January 27th, 2004 at 2:42 pm eDear Kraken, Admittedly, both “Tom” and “Brady” are exceedingly rare names and a simple google search should turn up the appropriate reference. I must blame my laziness and and sheer stupidity on the weather of late. It has made me unusually depressed and lethargic. Love, Anna
posted by Anna on January 27th, 2004 at 2:57 pm eIn fact, Google is very misleading. Only the first twelve links refer to the erstwhile Wolverine. The treacherous thirteenth is for the “home page of Tom Brady, a gay furry chemical engineer”.
posted by David on January 27th, 2004 at 3:51 pm eIndeed. And Wolverines are known for their political activism. How surprising that they do not vote. Kids…
posted by Anna on January 27th, 2004 at 4:00 pm eExplain why is it interesting that a pro football player didn’t vote in local elections? I’m not sure why this even ranks as trivia.
posted by Chris Herdt on January 28th, 2004 at 1:49 pm eChris, it’s not terribly interesting at all. Except insofar as Brady is on record as saying his great ambition is to one day become a US senator. That and the fact that he’s oddly registered in both California and Michigan. *And* that he appeared as one of Bush’s special invited guests at the state of the union address last week. It’s just an interesting case of apathy from a self-styled future senator, that’s all.
posted by Boris on January 28th, 2004 at 3:38 pm eUm, and that Tom Brady is sort of in the news right now because of the State of the Union and this is a website about Ann Arbor and I try to link to everything about Ann Arbor even if it’s not terribly interesting or (sob) I’m sorry, I’ll never do it again…
posted by ann arbor is overrated on January 28th, 2004 at 5:40 pm eAAIO- Boy, I guess finding interesting news about Ann Arbor would be easier if Ann Arbor were more interesting, wouldn’t it?

That’s what I’ve been trying to say all along, but no one will listen, this item was just a desperate cry for help…
posted by ann arbor is overrated on January 28th, 2004 at 9:43 pm eDon’t most students not bother to change their registration and instead vote at home instead of in Ann Arbor?
posted by gyc on January 28th, 2004 at 9:53 pm eI think so. That’s why students have so little voting power. I’m only registered here because I have a driver’s license here, and I don’t really consider myself a resident of Illinois since I haven’t lived there since I was 17. But plenty of other grad students I know are holding on to their old licenses until they expire.
How does that work, anyway? I think my Massachusetts license would still be valid. Can you drive around with a license from a state you have no connection to (other than a sentimental one)?

Tom Brady also happens to be in the news because he’s playing quarterback in the Super Bowl…
Sorry about my nasty google comment! It wasn’t very nice of me to pick on you guys just because you live in Ann Arbor! I’m a horrible monster and I pray for death!
posted by Kraken on January 29th, 2004 at 1:57 pm eGov. Engler changed the laws to make you have to register where your drivers license is about, what, 10 years ago or so? Part of it was the theory that because students are often on mumsy and daddum’s insurance, they can’t change their license without getting the boot. Ergo, it makes it harder for them to congeal into a political force.
