Ann Arbour Rocks It

It’s Ann Arbour - the Florida-based “alternative/emo” band, of course. With song titles like “Faceless” and “Breaking Me,” they do their namesake justice.

  1. Speaking of emo shit, there is actually some emo band with a song called “Anne Arbour” or something… the whiny/heart-rending chorus is like “Last summmer… Anne Arbour… is all I had.” Poor kid… he needs a blanky.

  2. That’s the Get Up Kids. I saw them play that song in concert, and they were like, “who’s from Ann Arbor?” and teenagers screamed, and the keyboardist said, “you must really think you’re cool.”

  3. Also noteworthy,

    “I’m just trying to be a guy / who’s hailing from Ann Arbor / I’m a jerk”

    – Frank Black, “Ten Percenter”

  4. Damn, I never noticed that Black Francis lyric. Hilarious. “Subacultcha” has very apt lyrics as well.

There’s a song in the credits to Fight Club called “Girl From Ypsilanti”. It doesn’t show up in any AMGish databases though….

  5. “Girl from Ypsilanti” was written by movie-music composer Daniel May, who also did music for “Everest” and several other movies.
